ribbedebie (rih-bah-the-bee) / Dutch:
missing, lost, unable to be found or recovered
ribbedebie can mean gone away or missing and can be used for both people or objects. It can be used to describe things that can no longer be found, "mijn sleutels zijn ribbedebie" (the giant ice glaciers no longer exist here.) The origins of ribbedebie are uncertain, but it quite possibly comes from the old Dutch slang Bargoens, in which "rib" meant dead and "bie" meant gone.

ice911 research

Ice911 Research chose to focus on the Arctic because it's the area where they can make the largest impact on the Earth’s temperatures. The ice in the Arctic acts as a global heat shield, playing a critical role in maintaining a safe and stable climate. For the past 700,000 years, Arctic sea ice has acted like the Earth’s heat shield by reflecting incoming solar radiation safely back to space, keeping all of us at an even temperature. They've spent the past decade testing and developing material approaches that could be used to make young, thin ice reflective. Their approach isn’t the magic wand that will avert a global catastrophe - it’s a safe solution that can be applied now to improve global warming, buying time for the world’s nations to complete the move to a more sustainable economy. By donating to Ice911 Research, you help expand their important Arctic fieldwork and outreach capabilities that in return will help you and our Earth live happier, longer, and safer.
